“Winged Name — Chkalov” is an exhibition dedicated to the true hero of his time, the famous test pilot and the favorite of the Soviet people — Valery Pavlovich Chkalov.
Back in the 1930s, the state set the ultimate goal of flying higher, faster, and farther than anyone else. Chkalov was the one to fly the farthest: his nonstop flight without refueling through the North Pole brought him to America. He was assisted by a reliable crew — Alexander Belyakov and Georgy Baydukov.
Chkalov made a significant contribution to the development of Soviet aviation, both civil and military. He tested airplanes, developed aerobatics, and performed the impossible both on the ground and above. It is also worth mentioning that he had close ties with Stalin.
The turbulent and outstanding path of Chkalov, his personal life and political views, his aspirations and achievements — this is what the exhibition “Winged Name — Chkalov” is all about.
The exhibition presents photographs, documents, and personal belongings of Valery Chkalov; in short, everything that relates to Chkalov’s activities both as a man and a famous pilot.
