“Beauty in the Details” is an exhibition housed in a classicist building constructed for the merchant Ivan Galaktionovich Bilibin in the late 18th century. Nowadays it is part of the Kaluga United Museum-Reserve.
The exhibition recreates a typical interior of a wealthy Russian house at the turn of the 20th century. It features over 370 antiquarian objects from the museum’s collection, including tiled stoves, furniture, books, paintings, many household items, and works of decorative and applied arts made of faience, porcelain, glass, and metal.
A 19th-century house often combined contemporary objects with obsolete items of various styles. Some of the belongings had been inherited from the ancestors.
The exhibition features a Chinese porcelain mug of the last quarter of the 18th century, a rare musical instrument called “royalino” made in the second half of the 19th century, tiled stoves created at the turn of the 20th century, as well as items in such styles as the Russian style, Empire, and Rococo Revival.
Exhibits are marked with AR stickers for identification purposes.
