This truly unique collection numbers more than 500 museum artifacts, including not only the artworks, but also a period folk costume, rare books, postcards, examples of Russian lubok (folk prints), a small collection of Ancient Egyptian objects, photographs, family archive documents, and personal belongings.
The first part of the collection was donated in 1980 by Mstislav Nikolaevich Pototsky, the son of Alexandra Vasilievna Shchekatikhina-Pototskaya. Today, the museum’s collection is being constantly replenished with priceless objects donated by his relatives.
Sketches of scenery and theatrical costumes, book illustrations and industrial graphic design examples, landscapes and portraits displayed in the museum’s halls represent all periods of Ivan Yakovlevich Bilibin’s creative path. From the fabulous Bilibin’s Rus, you can travel to sunny Taurida and medieval France, the ancient Mediterranean and biblical Palestine.
The impressions are harmonized by the artistic heritage of Alexandra Vasilievna Shchekatikhina-Pototskaya. Her porcelain works, still lifes, and graphic sketches convey the wonderful world of this “Scythian artist”.
The memorial room of the artists is particularly valuable. There you can see truly unique things, such as a box with paints and brushes, a camera, and a desk.
