The collection of the Museum of Local Lore “Settlement History of the Amur Region” has three sections: “The ancient past of the Amur region”, “The material and spiritual life of the Nanai people”, “The history of settlement and development of the Lower Amur by Russians in the middle of the 19th — early 20th century”.
About 200 million years ago, in the Amur region (Priamurye), a large area was occupied by the sea. Evidence comes from the discovery of fossils of ancient marine animals. Mountain-building processes began 65 million years ago, and the sea left the territory of the Amur region forever.
Ancient people appeared in this region about 300 thousand years ago. Archaeological finds have made it possible to trace the lives of people in various geological epochs. As a result of the mixing of the cultures of the newcomer population with the cultures of local tribes, modern Amur peoples appeared. The exhibition reflects crafts, everyday life, decorative and applied arts, and religious beliefs of the Nanai people.
The third section of the collection tells about Russian explorers in the
Far East in the 17th century and the migration of Russian peasants to the Amur.
