The History of Kargopol Region exhibition dives into the history and culture of the region, which originally stretched along the entire Onega River to the White Sea. The visitors will see coins from an ancient treasure trove, insignias of officials, books rewritten by Old Believers, and painted luboks. The collection’s pride is a pendant of a representative of the princely administration of the 11th century with the ancestral symbol of Yaroslav the Wise.
Church items are an important part of the museum. Here one can take a closer look at the liturgical vestments and shrouds, as well as a crown jewel of the collection — a wooden statue of St. Nicholas from the 17th century.
The everyday life of locals is revealed through such exhibits as a good-quality festive sled, furniture made in the late 19th century and a beer bottle that used to store a drink, which won a gold medal at the World Exhibition in Paris.
Exhibits are marked with AR stickers for identification purposes.
