The extensive collection of Eastern Art at the Samara Regional Art Museum includes magnificent Chinese, Japanese and Indian artworks. The museum also houses a rare collection of cultural monuments from the countries of the Islamic East. The collection of Eastern Art numbers about one and a half thousand monuments. It is made up of artworks from Classical Antiquity, Ancient Egypt, the Middle East, China and Japan which were amassed by Alfred von Vakano, the philanthropist and founder of the Zhiguli Brewery in Samara. Examples of Buddhist and Lamaist art are also displayed in the museum. They were previously kept in the collection of the outstanding orientalist Aleksei Matveevich Pozdneev.
The museum takes great pride in its remarkable artistic monuments of medieval and modern China. Most of the exposition space is devoted to porcelain ware. The visitors can see multiple examples of cloisonné enamel, one of the most difficult and labor-intensive crafts.
