The exhibition “The Art of Mstyora” offers visitors an opportunity to trace the development of traditional Mstyora crafts from the 17th century to the present.
The museum’s collection of lacquer miniatures includes over 350 artifacts. It is based on the works of talented masters, holders of Grand Prix Diplomas, Gold and Silver medals at World Exhibitions in Paris, New York, and Brussels. These are unique works by the founders of lacquer miniature painting, including the former icon painters Nikolai Klykov, Alexander Bryagin, Alexander Kotyagin and others. The ornamental sketches of the founder of Mstyora ornamental painting, the People’s Artist of the RSFSR, Yevgeny Yurin, as well as the works of his students, deserve special attention. The collection of paintings includes works by the artists Konstantin Mazin and Fyodor Modorov.
The exhibition presents examples of artistic metalworking: caskets, cup holders, vases and other products made by masters of the Mstyora factory “Jeweler”. They preserve the traditions of their predecessors, who decorated icon covers with minted elements, engraving, enamel and filigree.
Of particular interest are materials related to the activities of Ivan Golyshev, a local historian, ethnographer and founder of Russia’s first rural lithography. The Old Russian art section presents the unique works of Mstyora icon painters, as well as carved images.
The embroidery collection is represented by the
works of embroiderers of the late 19th century and the present day.
Made in the techniques of whitework embroidery, “Vladimir topstitch” and
“Russian satin stitch”, the artifacts are distinguished by the richness of
patterns. The skill and imagination of the craftswomen is truly astonishing.
Exhibits are marked with AR stickers for identification purposes.
