The economic rise of the Lipetsk Territory is associated with the name and work of Peter the Great, who is rightfully called the founding father of the city of Lipetsk. It was by his decree that the Lipsky ironworks were founded, which gave birth to the city as the largest center of the country’s ferrous metallurgy.
The museum’s unique exhibits reflect the life of various segments of the population in the Russian Empire and characterize the social history of the Lipetsk region. The 20th century was the time of heroic events and personalities, the century of global changes and greatest victories, represented by the materials of citizens and residents of the region, documents of one of the first Heroes of the Soviet Union, polar pilot Mikhail Vasilyevich Vodopyanov, and the participant of the Victory Parade, General Nikolay Nikolaevich Velikolepov.
All the works of art in the museum are somehow connected with the history of the Lipetsk region. They include the works by famous masters who decorated the living rooms in the Lipetsk manors and houses. Many paintings were created by prominent artists who lived or visited the Lipetsk region.
The museum also displays items that are associated with Russian spiritual traditions. The altar gospel, which Peter the Great allegedly gave the Lebedyansky Trinity Monastery for men, and the Holy Trinity triscenorama icon are the gems of the museum collection.
